Dr Orji Uzor Kalu Speaks On Terrorism In The Country

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

While speaking on AIT he urged the Federal Government to beg the terrorists because they are humans.
He said:
“If we are not careful, Jonathan will be the last president of Nigeria because nobody will take this bombing anywhere, because killing of people everyday means that there’s chaos and nobody wants to be associated with chaos, because it is from this bombing here and there that people will start demanding for independence. It happens but God forbid. We want our country to remain as one and a strong country. Other countries even the European union are expanding their boundaries so why should we allow our country to disintegrate.
It’s not about President Jonathan or who is minister or governor or what have you. It is about the nation. President Jonathan does not own this country; neither are the ministers the owners of the country. The country belongs to all of us collectively so we must come out openly as we are coming out now to solve the problem of the nation: to be able to reach out to Boko Haram formally and informally.
This is what I have always said. It’s not about the government. Business men own this economy. In the US, do you hear people talk about Obama? All the billionaires they don’t know who Obama is. They don’t even reckon with him because the economy is stabilized. People are talking about only three things: the economy, the economy and the economy. So I want people to come together, we are almost getting there, where the basing of the economy is very good, where the private sector will drive the economy not the public sector.
And this is what I see that Iweala is trying to working out. Most of the political, business and military class, farmers know the root of this insurgency. We must come together and say we must stamp out this insurgency and we will stamp it out.”
They are human beings; they have blood flowing in them. They will negotiate. They are talking to a lot of journalists, they are reachable. So the government should go out formally or informally to reach out and negotiate with them. They are human beings. We will sit down and negotiate this issue. This issue is about negotiation. The people who are saying that the government cannot negotiate with Boko Haram are not realistic about the nation. Even after a civil war people will still go to the table to negotiate. So I believe that the government should set up informal channels to negotiate with Boko Haram and stop this insurgency.

Epidemic Disease Hits Super Eagles Venue

Tuesday, June 3, 2014

Less than 10 days before the 2014 World Cup kicks off in Brazil, The City of Campinas, where the Super Eagles and Portugal will train for the World Cup, has been hit with dengue fever epidemic.
Reports say workers in the City have reportedly embarked on a huge operation to eradicate mosquitoes, which spread the disease, before the Portuguese and Nigerian teams arrive.
It was gathered that no fewer 32,384 people have been infected by dengue this year in the southeastern city about one hour from Sao Paulo.

Health officials stated that at least three people have died of the epidemic.

"It's a record epidemic. It's bigger than the 11,500 cases registered in all of 2007," said Andrea Von Zuben, who co-ordinates the Campinas dengue control program.

Dengue is a viral infection carried by the aedes aegypti mosquito. The fever is like chronic influenza with severe headaches, muscle and joint pain, vomiting and a rash. Severe cases can be deadly because there is no cure for dengue, so prevention is the best medicine.

The World Health Organisation recommends people in infected areas prevent mosquito bites with window screens, insect repellant and mosquito coils.

Brazil has been hit harder by dengue than any other country so far this century, with seven million cases reported between 2000 and 2013.

In order to prevent a different sort of outbreak during the Mundial, Campinas' authorities have said they would be giving their citizens free vaccinations ahead of the tournament which will see visitors from Africa and Europe, where "polio and measles are still persistent.

The reports also stated that priority will be given to transport workers, staff at restaurants and tourist attractions, and the employees of six major hotels.

Authorities in Brazil have however stated that the areas where the Nigerian and Portuguese squads will be camped are a mosquito-control priority for health officials.

The Nigerian team are currently camping in Philadelphia, USA ahead of their warm up match against Greece on Tuesday.

"I Have Suffered Enough for Refusing to Party with Politicians"

Nollywood actress and mother of four, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde at the Nigerian Entertainment  Conference (NEC), which held last week, told the audience that people should count her out of those celebrities who hobnobbed with government either for businesses or pleasure.

Somebody on a blog a few days ago wrote that there are Nollywood personalities who are friends with politicians, sharing the national cake together. I, Omotola, have never campaigned or partied with any government, so don’t mention my name among those who do that. I have suffered enough for refusing to party with them and take ‘Ghana Must Go’ back home, so don’t let me suffer more.
If, as an entertainer, you want to be friends with politicians, do so without aligning your brand with whatever the politicians stand for

Nice one!!! Samuel Eto'o, Davido, Adebayor Post Banana Photos In Support Of Barcelona's Dani Alves [See Photos]

After Barcelona defender Dani Alves ate the banana that was thrown at him, he started a revolution. Right now, it's taken over the social media.

The racist incident happened during Barcelona's match against Villarreal on Sunday, when a banana was thrown onto the pitch towards Dani Alves as he went to take a corner. Everyone was amazed as Dani picked it up, peeled it back and ate it. And since then, he has been receiving massive support against racism.

Speaking after the match Alves said:
"We have suffered this in Spain for some time, you have to take it with a dose of humour. We aren't going to change things easily. If you don't give it importance, they don't achieve their objective. I don’t know who it was, but thanks to whoever threw the banana, the potassium gave me the energy for the two crosses which led to a goal.”
The banana thrower has been identified and banned for life from games at the El Madrigal Stadium. The banana campaign for Alves has also gone viral. With even Davido sharing his own photo. Check them all out after the cut
